Building network applications with Junos Space
Juniper Networks has announced Junos Space, which is an open, extensible network platform for developing and hosting applications that reduce cost and complexity. One of the core members of the Junos platform, Junos Space, uses the same design principles and open systems approach of the Junos operating system to enable programmability at the network application layer. Juniper will release the SDK and begin working with early adopter partners in 2010. Since Junos Space is multipurpose, virtually all types of applications are possible.
The core platform provides network abstractions and automation to enable smart applications, and includes best practices to automate repetitive tasks, minimise user input, and scale services. It is business-intent oriented, not technology-centric, with the system guiding the user rather than the other way around. The platform architecture is open and explicitly designed to enable partners to build and deploy smart, simple and easy-to-use applications.
In addition to the Junos Space platform, Juniper is also introducing a portfolio of applications to help customers scale services, simplify network operations and automate support. The first three applications include Ethernet Activator, an application to automate MPLS service management, Route Analyser to speed troubleshooting, planning and change modelling for IP networks and Service Now, to reduce MTTR.
